about

As the original drummer and a founding member of Big Wreck - one of Canada’s leading rock bands of the 90’s, Forrest Williams left the music industry to raise a family shortly after the original lineup folded. Resurfacing on social media to engage with fans, Forrest created the “Retro Wreck” project, releasing an unused Big Wreck demo from his personal archives to fans who would create an original song using it. It was during this process that he met Scott Maybee, an active musician, and devout Big Wreck fan.

Scott’s work on the project showcased his abilities as a lyricist, musician and songwriter, catching the attention of both Forrest and Matt DeMatteo, co-producer of Big Wreck’s debut album “In Loving Memory Of…”. Aside from his involvement during Big Wreck’s formative years, Matt has an extensive musical resume; over the past two decades he has worked with big name Canadian acts like Hawksley Workman, Danko Jones, Big Sugar, Rusty, The Watchmen and many more.

While Forrest and Matt have worked together on several projects since Big Wreck (see The Jack Burton Project), they decided it was time to bring Scott into the fold to create something entirely new together, and thus The Forrest Williams Democracy was born.

“In Service of the Greater Good” is the band’s debut release. The song blends hard-hitting Bonham-style drums with Sabbath-laden riffs and contemporary production to deliver a sweeping, relentless and unforgiving hard rock epic of our time.

lyrics

If you must decide who lives and dies
Who would you just leave behind?
Forget your mother?
Forget your father?
Or save it all just for yourself?

Fires burn all through the night
My city lies in flames
Flesh and bones blow in the wind
Like flags made of remains
The streets are carved and razor sharp
And every step cuts in
I’m bleeding out on holy ground
Much to my chagrin

Life is an enemy
With nothing to lose
Thanks for the memories of keeping in time with the noose

One more day to raise the light or raise the dead
One more night to put the bullet in my head
One last hour to end the lives we never had
Or one last chance to blow it all to hell

Black top neighbours mow their lawns of ash and acid rain
As mothers pat their babies’ heads to rid them of the pain
What visions and what dreams I know, all versions of the end
Warnings of a prophet who once acted like a friend

Life is an enemy
With no love to give
The endless anxiety of bearing our one life to live

One more day to raise the light or raise the dead
One more night to put the bullet in my head
One last hour to end the lives we never had
Or one last chance to blow it all to hell

Now the world is wasted light
Broken and decayed
The path laid out is suicide
Our happiness delayed
Crack the skin and cut the fruit
To see what’s left inside
And when we wake up from the dream
We’ll wake up buried alive

One more day to raise the light or raise the dead
One more night to put the bullet in my head
One last hour to find the words I never said
Or one last chance to blow it all to hell

Blow it all to hell
You might just have a chance to blow it all to hell
Forget your father?
Forget your mother?
Or blow it all away?
